Barbara A. Merry is a marine rope worker with twenty years of experience in the splicing trade and the author of The Splicing Handbook, now in its third edition.
Barbara became interested in rope as an artist tying fancy knots and has worked on nets for commercial fishermen and fabricated rope products for industrial applications. She is also a rigger and owner of the Marlinspike Artist in Wakefield, Rhode Island.
Barbara has worked on projects for boats of all sizes, from small traditional sailing craft and working schooners to commercial fishing vessels and U.S. Coast Guard cutters. She has taught at the WooderBoat School and the Northeast Maritime Institute, and has written on rope and rope technology for WoodenBoat as well as Invention and Technology.
