Morton started his career as a historian, transitioning from academic research and university teaching to public-oriented historical writing while working for the IEEE History Center at Rutgers University. There, he joined the team that developed the IEEE Virtual Museum, a website for the general public, where users can explore the histories of modern electrical and electronics technologies and their social impact.
Morton developed web applications as a private consultant for several years before joining the Georgia Tech College of Architecture in 2007 as webmaster for the Architecture Program. Morton moved to CATEA as web designer in November 2008.
Morton has a BA in History from the University of Georgia, and a PhD and MS in the History of Technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
