Edwin T. Layton, Jr. (1929-2009) was president of the Society for the History of Technology and a professor of the history of science and technology at the University of Minnesota from 1975 until his retirement in 1998.
Layton is the author of the classic book, The Revolt of the Engineers: Social Responsibility and the American Engineering Profession (1971), which still holds a prominent place in the historiography of technology and engineering.
