Elmer L. Gaden, Jr. (1924-2012) was the Wills Johnson Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia. Gaden was founder of the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Journal, which he edited until 1983.
Gaden earned his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Columbia University, and served on the faculty of Columbia University from 1949- 1974. He served as Dean of the University of Vermont College of Engineering, Mathematics and Business Administration from 1974 to 1979. In 1979 he returned to teaching at the University of Virginia until his retirement in 1994.
