Mt. Chiles has written two books, Inviting Disaster: Lessons from the Edge of Technology (HarperCollins, 2001) and The God Machine: From Boomerangs to Black Hawks, The Story of the Helicopter. Scientific American named The God Machine as a holiday book pick and Library Journal named it as one of the best science books of 2007. It was favorably reviewed in Kirkus, Booklist, and Publishers Weekly.
Mr. Chiles is also a frequent lecturer and commentator on the History Channel, NPR, Voice of America, and National Geographic Channel. He is also gives safety-focused lectures at such places as NASA Dryden Flight Research Center; General Electric Energy Systems; and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, and Lockheed Martin Space Division.
